This book discusses the outcomes of the first national survey of male survivors of sexual abuse in childhood. It shows how extensive such abuse actually is, and examines the various social myths that have made it less visible. The author argues that increased attention to, and acknowledgement of, male victimization is needed to reduce the isolation of male survivors, as well as decrease incidence. Modifications and revisions of conceptual frameworks regarding long-term consequences of childhood abuse as they apply to the male experience are also discussed.
