Business Ethics

Business Ethics
Summary
Among the 96 papers presented in this three-volume reader on business ethics centrally concerned with corporate social responsibility are both excerpts of classic works of moral philosophy--such as The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli and Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes--and more contemporary readings. Nearly all, note the editors, can be placed in the normative categories of utilitarianism, which stresses the rightness of seeking to expand the greatest happiness, or deontology, which places primacy on one's rights and duties. The thematically organized volumes begin with a collection of articles introducing the dominant normative theories and the primary issues of distributive justice and corporate social responsibility, including writings by Milton Friedman, Karl Marx, John Rawls, Amartya Sen, and others on classic questions of distribution and property, as well as more contemporary concerns over corporate social responsibility, intellectual property, and the ethical significance of globalization.
