A crack approximately 14 inch long was discovered in a longitudinal seam weld in a hot reheat line of TVA Gallatin Unit 2 during ultrasonic inspection (and subsequently by MT examination).Initially a boat sample was removed and an entire spool piece (20 ft) was subsequently replaced.A metallurgical evaluation was undertaken to determine the characteristics of the defect and the reason for its occurrence.
