This report analyzes developments in biomass pretreatment technologies. Next generation bio-based technologies utilize biomass as a feedstock and in order to process the biomass into fuels and chemicals, the biomass must first be pretreated. The study assesses the technical, commercial, and economic aspects of biomass pretreatment technologies that are currently available and emerging.
